WELCOME

Welcome to Masters Squash in the ACT!

ACT Masters Squash is an established squash association which has been operating in Canberra since 1980. We welcome all squash players, regardless of level, aged 35 and over.
To play Masters Squash all you need is a racquet and some enthusiasm for having a good time with good company and getting some exercise while you do it. You don’t have to be a seasoned ‘squashie’. ACT Masters prides itself on offering a friendly way to play squash, where you can be as competitive as you like or not as long as you play with good humour and commitment to the enjoyment of everyone. This is what we call ‘the Masters Spirit’!
If you have recently ‘retired’ from playing squash, are thinking about it, haven’t played for a while and would like to start again, or are a beginner, why don’t you come along and try the Masters approach?

Competitions

We run three competitions a year, played on Monday and Wednesday nights starting at 7.30 pm. On Monday’s we play alternating between Woden and Dickson courts, and on Wednesday nights at Weston Creek Community Centre and Woden. These regular competitions are mixed and graded so that all standards of squash ability are catered for, from top grades to beginners. The competitions vary between 11 and 15 weeks plus a finals night with modest prizes for winner, runners up and wooden-spooners.
Of course there are costs involved but only as much as is needed to cover court hire, disposable equipment such as balls, and trophies.

Interested in part-time only?

If you don’t feel you can commit to turning up every week but would like to become a part of ACT Masters Squash or would like to just try it out for a bit, a good entry point is to play as a reserve. We often need fill-in players, and this is a good way to get the feel of the Masters way for a small cost each time you reserve. A list of contacts for people interested in reserving is provided to our members to call when they need a fill-in. Just phone or email the President or Competition Secretary.

Our Annual Tournament

In March of each year we hold the ACT Masters Championships. This tournament is always held on the first weekend in March, and is open to all Masters squash players Australia-wide.
ACT Masters Squash is also a member of the Australian Masters Squash Association and AMSA puts on a national championship event every year, rotated around the 8 states and territories of Australia. This includes both a singles and teams competition and runs for 2 weeks with a lot of social activity included to make it a truly memorable experience.

Social events

Because it isn’t always all about winning, we relax and enjoy a night out for dinner after each competition, usually on the Monday of the week after the finals night. These dinner are held at restaurants selected around Canberra for good food and good value.
After the last comp of the year, for those who haven’t worn out on the squash courts, we add in a chance to kick up our heels and let our hair down with a band and Christmas cheer. Keep an eye on the Featured Posts for details.
Happy Squashing
